I can help you pass your test. Thats the easy bit. Keeping you safe on the road and giving you the skills and knowledge to stay safe for the rest of your life, that's what I pride myself on. It's hard work and requires the right mind but the rewards are incredible. Imagine being able to drive, having a licence and owning your own car. (Stop thinking of the costs, its only depressing....) More work opportunities, more chances of getting that job because your potential employer knows you stand a chance of getting to work on time. More independence. More choices. Better family connections, you get to see those people you want to see, when YOU want to see them. No more standing at the bus stop getting soaked only to sit on a bus with strangers. There are so many upsides to having your licence its hard to imagine life without it. So get in touch, book in that first lesson and before you know it, you'll be driving off in your own car with the confidence to drive by yourself!
First things first then, a little about me and what I do. The car and what you can expect! Next stop the Services page to see what I can do for you!
My name is Michael Nixon. I have been a self-employed driving instructor since the beginning of 2011. I run my own business and I run it with the sole intention of helping people drive safe for life. It just so happens that means getting you ready for your test very quickly.
I am a fully qualified Approved Driving Instructor (ADI)
registered with the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).
I have a full enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. (Originally the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check)
I am a member of the Driving Instructors Association (DIA)
which also provides liability and indemnity insurance.
Previous driving history:
- 5 years Category C+E
- 2 years FLT
I have achieved a Gold Standard on the RoSPA advanced driving test.
I have the following up to date certificates too;
- First Aid at Work
- FBOS (First Bike On Scene) which is an Accident Scene Management course with emergency first aid
My Teaching Style
I believe that I bring a fresh approach to learning to drive. By making lessons as relaxed as possible, nearly all of my students would say they were happy and found the lesson to be enjoyable.
I try to match the pace of tuition to the level of my students. Meaning if you have the drive to learn, I can quickly learn you to drive. (I know, not grammatically correct but bear with me!) If you have the energy, time and of course money to do it, you can find yourself with a licence from start to finish in just a few weeks. (Test booking in advance greatly required) - More information on the Intensive Courses in the Services section.
What Happens if I'm Late
So far to date, I've never cancelled a lesson for being late. I have moved a couple of people around in the same week to accommodate driving tests, but never actually cancelled one. (Illness can strike anyone at any time though)
Sometimes I can’t help being a little late to lessons, traffic being the usual culprit. (there is a minimum of 30 minutes between lessons to ensure I’m with you on-time) But the lesson is still the same length. I will make up time between lessons or during a lunch break, rather than cut your lesson short. You’ll also receive information from me if I’m even likely to be late.
The car is a Vauxhall Corsa Electric with 5 doors. (Please note that electric cars do not have any gears and as such come under the automatic category)
The Corsa Electric is reliable and well maintained. I do a basic maintenance check on it every weekend to ensure it runs as smooth as possible and the car is the least likely to break down it can be.
To date the car has had no major breakdowns at all.
The car has several options to help with your driving experience:
- Height & Reach adjustable steering wheel
- Reach, tilt and height adjustable seat - the shorter people out there find they can drive this car when they can't drive the Ford Fiesta etc.
- Electric mirrors - quicker setup so we can get on with driving.
- Dual controls - so you never feel like you’re out of control!
My Work Ethic
Honesty is the best policy. Be it good or bad, always be honest.
Being a father of a young family I understand the need to be accommodating and flexible in my approach to training. This can be seen in my hours of work and my 6-days a week approach to working. Add to this covering some bank holidays too and I don’t believe you’ll find a more accommodating instructor out there. That’s not to say I still don’t have a work-life balance. I will limit myself to the number of hours I do in a single day. Not just for my own sanity, but for the benefit of my students.
You don’t want an instructor that’s done 12 hours already when he gets to your lesson. You most certainly wont' be getting your monies worth I promise you. You want an instructor that’s as fresh at their 18:00 booking as he was at his 10:00 booking. Hence the spread of hours through the day and over 6 days. Everyone wins.
I keep myself well dressed, well groomed and clean and fresh every day. And I treat my car the same. It’s cleaned outside at least once a week. Wiped down and cleaned inside every night. The interior is clutter free and in perfect condition.
I believe that I should be available in as many ways as possible should my students have an enquiry. That’s why you can phone me, text me, email me, contact me through this site, message me on FaceBook, whatsapp me, Connect with me on LinkedIn or Tweet Me.
Finally, I believe in offering the best service you can get, at a reasonable cost. Of course, if you look around enough, ring enough instructors you’ll find cheaper. Not necessarily better, but cheaper non-the-less. And you’ll come across some more expensive. I believe my prices are just right.
The instructor is the most important part of learning to drive. You want someone that will make you at ease, be informative, be friendly, reliable and be reasonable on costs. If that sounds like me, then hit the enquiry form and begin your journey to a licence for the rest of your life!
